BID BALLOT 2027–2032
Over the past four years, Peterborough Positive has delivered a wide range of projects and initiatives focused on supporting businesses, promoting the city centre, and strengthening Peterborough as a place to work, visit and invest.
The current term of the Peterborough Positive Business Improvement District (BID) will conclude in March 2027. We are now entering the ballot process, giving local businesses the opportunity to vote on the future of the BID for the 2027–2032 term, with voting opening on 19 June.
BUSINESS LED, BUSINESS FUNDED
The upcoming ballot is your chance to have a direct say on whether the BID continues to represent and invest on behalf of local businesses for the next five years. A positive vote will enable Peterborough Positive to build on what has already been achieved, and continue to deliver initiatives that add value to levy-paying businesses and help drive the city’s future success.
This ballot is about the future direction of Peterborough Positive and the role it plays in supporting a strong, vibrant, and resilient business community.

OUR FOCUS AREAS

YOUR QUESTIONS?
Who is eligible to vote?
All businesses located within the BID area (see business plan) with a rateable value of £15,000 or more are eligible to vote in the BID ballot.
Shouldn’t my business rates cover this?
Business rates are a property tax collected by the local authority and redistributed nationally. The funding received is used to deliver statutory and discretionary services, over which individual businesses have no direct
control.
All funds raised through the BID levy are ring-fenced and reinvested directly into services and projects that benefit
the BID area.
How will Peterborough Positive improve my business?
A successful ballot result will unlock approximately £2.7 million of investment into the city centre over the five-year term. Peterborough Positive will build on the momentum of the first term, continuing to deliver projects and activities that enhance the city centre experience for businesses, local communities and visitors.
Who decides how the money is spent?
Levy-paying businesses can influence priorities through feedback channels such as surveys and visits. The Peterborough Positive team is accessible to businesses, and delivery is overseen by a business-led board that represents sectors within the BID area.
Is this a way for Peterborough City Council to save money?
No. Peterborough Positive is a business-led, independent, not-for-profit organisation. All BID activity must be additional to services provided by the local authority and cannot replace council-funded services.
What happens if there is a “no” vote?
If the BID ballot is unsuccessful, Peterborough Positive will not continue and the city centre will lose the co-ordinated business voice and representation, business-led investment, projects and initiatives set out in the business plan.
