A big screen live stream of the Wimbledon Finals is coming to the city centre thanks to Peterborough’sBusiness Improvement District (BID).

Peterborough Positive is hosting a big screen event to celebrate the Wimbledon Finals on 15th and 16th July, from 12.30pm.

The free-to-attend, family-friendly weekend event will take place in St John’s Square, where people can see big screen action of the women’s singles final on the Saturday, followed by the men’s clash on the Sunday.

Tennis fans are encouraged to bring a picnic and local businesses will be selling refreshments from a selection of pop-up food and drink stalls.

Strawberries and cream, ‘Wimbledon’ milkshakes, pizza slices and a selection of summer drinks will be available to purchase during the matches.

Pep Cipriano, Business Improvement Manager at Peterborough Positive, said:

“St John’s Square lends itself to having a big screen event where shoppers can take the weight off their feet, grab something to drink and relax on the green. For me, the Wimbledon finals and a picnic go together like strawberries and cream, which will of course be on sale during the weekend.

“We will also be providing chairs for those who prefer to be properly seated. The singles finals start at 2pm, but the screen will be on from 12.30pm both days to catch some of the other finals action before the main event. It won’t be game, set and match afterwards, as I’m hoping this will be the first of an annual big screen event in the city centre.
